Sugar & Spice

"Sugar" & "Spice" were OOP (Out of Pouch) on June 4th, 2009. I am asking $400 for the both of them with a $200 nonrefundable deposit to hold them for you. The adoption price includes both Gliders, and the neutering procedure on the male, "Spice" (in order to prevent inbreeding with his sister). They will be ready to go to their forever home between July 30th and August 13th. We are located in Boca Raton, Florida. If you are interested, we can set up a time and date for you to come meet them, then you can put down the $200 deposit on them.

"Sugar" is a beautiful Classic Gray female Glider. She has a very sweet, loving deposition and loves to cuddle up with her brother, "Spice". She is very pretty in color. These two Gliders MUST go together as they have been together since OOP.

"Spice" is a gorgeous Black Beauty male Glider. He will have to be neutered before leaving our facility to prevent inbreeding with his sister. I am including this procedure in the $400 adoption fee and it will be performed with my local Exotic Veterinarian. "Spice" is a very lovely little thing, he loves his food and is growing rapidly!!!

These two babies have been handled frequently since OOP to insure that they have loving, tame depositions when placed in their new forever homes. We prefer to sell locally, and we DO NOT ship our babies. If for whatever reason you can no longer keep a Sugar Glider that you have adopted from us, I do require that it is returned back to me for minimal (if any) cost. Thank you.

Egypt & Asia (Sugar Glider Rescue Mission!)

On August 11th, 2008 a very special Sugar Glider came OOP (Out of Pouch) here at Sugar Shock! (formerly known as Wild ~N~ Free Suggies Forever). This Glider's name Ozzy, she grew fast, her eyes opened (August 22nd, 2008) and soon she was completely weaned and approaching her 10 week mark. I had begun to post ADs for her, and I soon asked my friend Mary Nord (a former Sugar Glider breeder, www.flyingcritters.net) if she had a young female which I could pair Ozzy up with as I really didn't believe in selling Gliders alone (unless someone was looking for a friend for their current Glider).

On December 14th, 2008 a young couple from Tennessee (visiting family in Orlando, Florida) stopped by Mary's house in Loxahatchee, Florida to pick up the little girl we were going to pair Ozzy up with. Kesha and her husband then came to my house to meet us and pick up Ozzy, they seemed nice enough. I thoroughly quizzed them regarding Sugar Glider care and we felt confident that the Gliders were going to a great home. I had them sign a contract stating that if for whatever reason they could no longer care for the Gliders in the future that they must be returned to me for minimal (if any) cost. They agreed to keep in touch and let me know if anything should come up. They renamed the two Gliders Egypt (Ozzy) & Asia.

Recently, I had been browsing Hoobly, Kijiji and a few other Classifieds sites. I always have an eye open for anything that looks suspicious. I was looking over a few ADs when I found one that caught my eye. This AD was posted by a lady in Tennessee named Kesha who was selling two female Sugar Gliders. It was them! I immediately e-mailed Kesha, questioning her as to why she didn't let me know they were for sale? I hadn't heard a single word regarding them. Kesha finally agreed that she'd sell them to me for $400, when she didn't pay a penny over $125 for the both of them. I flat out refused and demanded that she bring my Gliders back. Hesitantly, she accepted and allowed us to pay $75. We made arrangements for Michelle's (little nitro) mother-in-law, Sharron to meet Kesha in the Cocoa Beach/Titusville area on June 11th, 2009. When Sharron got the Gliders she phoned Michelle immediately who then called me.

It turns out that Kesha had given Sharron all of the Glider's supplies too, Kesha had explained that they had been living in a parakeet-size bird cage for the last 6 months when she had told me they had been housed in a very large aviary. Lies. When Sharron received the Gliders, the cage was FILTHY, the pouches were torn up, stained and smelled DISGUSTING. The pull-out tray was lined with cat litter which was covered in feces and urine. The Gliders had both been transported down here with no source of water. They had also been eating pellets formulated for Rabbits ever since she had first brought them home. We don't think they were handled much, or might have even been abused. They were very skittish and alert. The had no idea what mealworms were and had never seen an Exercise Wheel. I met with Sharron on June 12th, 2009 in Vero Beach, Florida and brought both of these lovely little Gliders to my home. I immediately moved them into a very large cage (similar to the Bourbon model) and introduced them to a proven diet, The Priscilla Price Diet. They gobbled that up like it was their last meal! I installed a Senior-size Wodent Wheel into the cage and gave them fresh water (in both a bowl and bottle). They were thrilled at the extra space and loved to play on everything. I offered them some Giant Mealworms and they nibbled a few, before devouring the rest. The next day was even better, I took them out in a large 10ft x 12ft (Glider Proof) screen room I have set up in my backyard. They loved to jump around and play in it!

On Sunday, June 14th, 2009 one of my customers, Valerie came to pick up Egypt & Asia. Valerie had also purchased Egypt's little sister, Chloe a few weeks ago. Egypt & Asia went to live in their new forever home with Valerie. She has been keeping me informed on how they are doing and they seem to already be getting along with Chloe. I am thrilled that I could help out both of these wonderful creatures, and I know that Valerie will love them all immensely. They will be living in the same cage I kept them in here, being fed The Priscilla Price Diet, along with Suncoast Sugar Gliders' Diet and plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and of course, calcium!

Formal Apology

Dear Sugar Glider Community,
Do you remember what you were feeling the very first time you laid eyes on a Sugar Glider? How about the day you went to purchase your first suggie? I do, I started from the same point everyone had. I was a beginner, brand new to Sugar Gliders and eager to learn whatever I could. I had done little researched when I decided to join www.glidercentral.net (Sugar Glider Central) thinking that it would be a great place to gain some knowledge. I was twelve, inexperienced and had never owned a Sugar Glider before. I was active on those forums for quite a few months, listening to others chat back and forth, giving a little bit of my insight on minor issues people were having with their suggie sweethearts...everything seemed alright.

One day, somebody posted about an extremely aggressive Sugar Glider. My first thought was "are they like pitbulls?" I had never encountered one before. I had no idea what they were like when I replied (quite stupidly) to that post. I admit, I did tell her the following "if it's this aggressive and could potentially cause harm it may be most humane if you put it down." I didn't realize how wrong that was until 3 1/2 years worth of research later. If I could, I would take
back all that was spoken that day. I acted immaturely and I sincerely apologize. I have had my reputation ruined since then, but I cannot say that I didn't deserve it. I understand where everyone is coming from. I did deserve it, and I apologize.

There has been much confusion about who I am as well. I am Lauren, a mother to seven beautiful Sugar Gliders who have stolen all of my heart. I was a small-scale breeder for around a year, however, I gave that up because I realized...if I love the animal so much why would I continue breeding? There are so many Sugar Gliders who end up in rescue homes each and every month, they need a home more than the joeys I used to sell. So I decided to quit breeding, with these rescues in mind. No, I am not a rescue home and nor do I plan to start rescueing any time in the near future-I share a deep love with these animals, and I feel that there is already an overpopulation of Sugar Gliders who are unwanted. =(

I would like to apologize to the following communities, breeders and individuals:
GliderCentral (www.glidercentral.net) - I sincerely apologize for all the drama and chaos I have caused on your forums. I honestly didn't mean any harm when this occured back in 2007, I was inexperienced then. I understand if you don't want me posting on your website anymore, I respect that and I will stay off of it shall that be what you desire.

USGN (www.usgn.info) & Meredith (Glidin' For Love) - I would also like to make a formal apology to the USGN community and Meredith. I am sorry my drama spread to your board when it was unwanted. I would also like to thank you Meredith for attempting to guide me through my Sugar Glider questions. I have sincerely changed my ways, I no longer breed and my heart is now completely devoted to my seven suggie sweethearts! =D You made me realize just how many gliders there are in this world who are homeless or abused, I was just contributing to the overpopulation. I took your words to heart and did what I believed best, I neutered my intact male! =D

Emily (AnimalLover or some of you know her as 'Carebear') - We were always so close, I purchased my first Sugarbabies with you and we made this journey together. I apologize for all I have done to cause you any kind of pain. We have always had our love of animals in common amongst many other qualities. We've been best friends for years, I don't know what came between us. However, I regret whatever I did to tear us apart. I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day you can find it in your heart to forgive me and we can move on. =D You are still my FPCTYWEBSFL.

I am sorry to all of you whether I have caused you discomfort or pain. I deeply regret my actions and would like to make it up to you. I promise to stay off of these Sugar Glider Forums if that is what you wish of me. Thanks for reading this and I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me one day.

Aussie, Scooter & Gizmo Come Home!

I recently purchased three WFB boys from Priscilla Price! They arrived safe and sound last night and settled in perfectly. They even let me hold and pet them, they were so tame! Her babies must be worked with daily, cause these guys were so active and friendly. Priscilla Price is a wonderful woman and now I know who to go to for all my glider needs/questions. I also would highly recommend her diet, I tried it for the first time last night, my gliders gobbled it up like it was their last meal. It is so fresh that if you got it on your finger-you could even eat it. The diet is perfect for our little glider's needs. :)

New Additions To My Colony!

Recently, I've been looking around for a White Variation Sugar Glider, either a sterile or neutered male. Little did I know that I wouldn't end up with just one! I am incredibly excited! A few days ago, Priscilla Price, of 'The Pet Glider' offered me three White-Face Blonde sterile males. At first I was very hesitant, I didn't want to separate the brothers-but could I really take on three more Sugar Gliders? That would make seven gliders in total, seven mouths to feed, but, nonetheless, seven mouths to love. I had little experience with Priscilla or 'The Pet Glider', however, after reading some of the testimonials on her website and e-mailing with her-I am quite impressed! She has so many Sugar Gliders, yet, it is clearly apparent that she loves each and every one of them. Her gliders are not only beautiful, but they are known for their sweet dispositions. These three boys named Joel, John and Justin will be shipped to me on Saturday. I can honestly say, I can't wait to meet them! I have already picked out names too, I'm deciding between Diablo, Scooter, Aussie, Suggie, Gizmo and Bugsy. I guess I'll have to choose when I meet them, huh? They are too cute, I really hope they love me as their new 'glider mommy'! :) I am super excited and I'll definitely be posting to say how things go!!!

The Story of Mischief & Precious!

October 31st, 2008 was a very special evening at Sugar Shock! Sheila & Bandit's beautiful brother/sister twins were born. They were named Mischief & Precious since it was Halloween and the names just seemed to fit perfectly. Mischief is a Standard Gray/Black Beauty het and Precious is a Black Beauty/Standard Gray het. Mischief was known as 'sugar' because he was incredibly sweet from the very beginning. Precious was known as a crybaby, everything anybody did seemed to upset her. She was extremely 'face shy' and did not like anybody touching her face or making 'kissing noises' near her at all. We worked with her and rewarded her when she let us pet her, eventually she calmed down. The pair are now beautiful, friendly and happy. Mischief & Precious, now four months old, left for their new "forever home" yesterday evening. Best of luck to the Pike family and their new additions!

Meet My Sugar Glider Colony!

I would like to take the time to introduce you to my furry family, my Sugar Glider colony! I currently have four Sugar Gliders: Stella Luna, Bindi and Sheila all came from my friend, Mary Nord who is a breeder in my area. You can visit her website for more information. Stella Luna is my two years young, White-Face female. When I first got my Stella she wasn't very friendly. She would crab endlessly, lunge and bite at me nonstop. I carried her around in her bonding pouch each day and offered her treats. I was patient and showed her love-soon she came around to be one of the sweetest gliders I have ever seen!

Bindi is my two years young, Standard Gray female. This Sugar Glider does not have a bad bone in her entire body. Since the day I first brought her home, she has NEVER bitten. She is a curious glider and prefers to be running around as opposed to being cuddled up with. She is a very social sweetheart but seems to be quite shy with people.

Sheila is my two years young, Standard Gray female. She prefers to remain a 'wild child' as we've taken to calling her. She lets people pet her but doesn't like to be held. She's not very tame or bonded but we are working with her each day so that her temperment improves a bit. She is the mother of all of the precious little babies we see here. She is mated to Bandit and they form my only breeding pair at the moment.

Bandit is my two years young, Black Beauty intact male. He was extremely protective of 'his cage' and 'his girls' when we first brought him home. However, he has formed a very special bond with me. He was surrendered to me from a family close by. He is not a rescue, he was properly cared for-they just could no longer keep him. He is mated to Sheila and they have had four perfectly healthy joeys so far! :)

These four beautiful creatures make up my Sugar Glider colony. Each unique, distinctive personality is what makes my colony truly one of a kind!
